Twinkly Treasure

My finds of this year are possibly these three lovelies, they were taped up in a plastic bag labelled 'junky vintage' with a price tag of £1 for the 3.  To my mind they were a bargain but the seller exclaimed her amazement at what I was willing to pay £1 for and tried to flog me a brand new jewellery box in the shape of a platform shoe which was still in it's protective polythene wrapper, the wrapper was clearly meant to be the clincher.  It wasn't until I explained that it was the basket of old costume jewellery I was interested in that she clocked me as 'one of those vintage people who buy any old junk as long as it's old'.  Fair analysis I suppose, but one girl's trash (I know, I'm going all American on you, but rubbish just doesn't cut it in this catchphrase) is another's treasure!   I hope she pops up at every table top sale in Ashbourne.

I'm fairly certain the sparkly bumble bee brooch is Past Times or Debenhams circa 2003 though it is pretty all the same, but the clip-on earrings are very old and all the more appealing for it.  The pendant is from the 'Exquisite' range which was made by a company called W.A.P. Watson of Solihull who produced the line between 1914 and 1977, so it also has a couple of decades under it's belt but I couldn't hazard a guess as to when it was made - answers on a postcard?

Linking this post with Sophie of Her Library Adventures, this week Sophie has popped up 'Flea Market Finds of the Year'.  I'm away to make a cup of rose garden tea and gaze at all the treasures, hope you're all having a lazy, relaxing Sunday! Pop along to Magpie Monday if you fancy some more thrifty finds.

  12. Oh Jem, what is tha matter with these people that they can't see the beauty in these items ! It never fails to amaze me when people sell me beautiful old items for what amounts to pennies.

  13. What fabulous finds! I love the way you've photographed them on that exquisite plate, too.
I get the same sympathetic looks when I'm out buying. I really think sellers think I'm a bit deranged and they try and off load all manner of inappropriate tat on me. x

  14. It doesn't matter when or where they were made. The fact is, they're beautiful, and that's what counts.
Can't believe you missed out on the platform shoe box, how COULD you?!

  18. It always makes me laugh when I'm buying something vintage in a charity shop and the cashier is amazed that anyone would want to pay for it...but I love those shops all the more as they have no idea how much things are worth (although I do sometimes feel bad for taking advantage).

I love all of these finds but especially the earrings <3

I'm not sure of a date for the blogger meet yet, I'm working on it and will keep you posted xx

  21. What a fantastic bargain! I find it hard to believe anyone thinks old things should be cheaper than modern tat, but I'm jolly glad they do! The earrings are just gorgeous! Thanks for your comment on my blog - just to let you know, our house is anything but grand!

  22. Jewels and Finery is an excellent blog that talks about Exquisite - it helped me date a brooch I own to the 1960s.

I don't know if she does much on pendants, but she will probably show stuff in a similar style that will help you work out a rough date for yours.

  25. I'm pretty sure those are shoe or dress clips rather then earrings, although I guess you could wear them anyway you please. :) Frocks and Frou Frou just posted about dress clips maybe two posts ago. If you are interested. Super good find.
