Charity Shop Chic

Had a little bloggy break over the long weekend, but it's back to business as usual today after a jolt home to reality at work.  We've been overrun with tourists and traffic in the Peaks this weekend and it has been a surprise to experience just how busy it gets, we moved here in November so have got to know the place in the quiet months of Autumn/Winter and I really can't blame everyone for wanting to visit as even on a wet and windy day it can be gorgeous.

First find up is this retro daisy covered jug, it was one of the first things I clocked in the Salvation Army as it was placed handily on the counter - some savvy merchandising given the weather last week and the likelihood of barbecues/garden parties meaning everyone will dusting off the jugs at the back of the cupboard or replacing them to fill with yummy stuff.  I thought it was a snip at 99p!

It was the MIL's birthday last Monday; I'd wanted to pick up a trinket/jewellery box of some description to go with the scarf and book I'd already picked out and found a really pretty china one in a local antique shop but was in two minds as to whether she'd love it so found this as a back up.  Luckily the china one went down a storm so I got to keep this one - I'm in love with the carving.

These little sherry glasses (I think they're sherry glasses!) were 10p each and I'm going to use them as candle holders once I've found some the right size candles.

I've been envious of other bloggers Pyrex collections (naming no names but you know who you are!) so fell upon this small mixing bowl in Age UK for £1, considering making cupcakes purely to give the bowl it's maiden voyage!

When will I stop picking up china?  I'm beginning to think Satan will skate to work before I stop swooping at every piece of pretty vintage china I see.  This was absolutely the bargain of the week at 50p and I did a subtle happy dance when I handed over the money, luckily the Lighthouse charity shop staff seem used to having such an odd regular.

On another note, I'd been mooning over a beautiful hand mirror featured by Kylie on her lovely blog Lucy Violet Vintage and she was kind enough to request my address and send me a gorgeous vintage hairbrush all the way from sunny Perth, Australia.  It was such a kind gesture and made my day! Thank you so much Kylie.

I was also a very lucky girl on the giveaway front and won one of the generous collections of prizes from Scarlett of Scarlett Loves Elvis.  Gorgeous rhinestone hairslides, a string of vintage beads, a sequinned handbag mirror in a little organza bag and a vintage postcard which was put straight into action as a bookmark, while the Elvis notelet fittingly took pride of place here.  It was like Christmas opening the beautifully wrapped little parcels!

Hope you all had a lovely Easter!

  1. My mum has the same rose pyrex and hates it - it was a wedding present, she thinks it's old fashioned! Isn't it funny how we all love this kind of stuff and our trendy mums are horrified! Royal wedding cupcake - perfect excuse for baking ;-)

    Kylie's a love isn't she - that mirror is gorgeous x
